History

❀ Audra was born in 9:16 Dragon to Tavish and Kenna Penrose, a noble couple living in Starkhaven. She has an older brother Artair, and a younger sister, Abigail.
❀ When she was 4 her magic began to manifest, but her brother worked with her to conceal it. They hid it from her family for one full year. When she was 5 her father caught her using magic to cool a drink and sent for the Templars.
❀ She lived in the Starkhaven Circle until she was 11, when her father discovered she was secretly writing letters to her brother. Tavish had sway within the Order, and Audra was sent to Kinloch Hold.
❀ When Audra was 14 Uldred and his students took over the Circle and unleashed abominations in the hall, Audra protected students and helped them hide until the Hero of Ferelden arrived.
❀ She remained at Kinloch Hold and helped in rebuilding, she was given her Harrowing at 17. It was in this time she took an interest in Entropy magic, and the Nevarran Mortalatasi, and started researching more about Necromancy.
❀ Shortly after she turned 18, she received a letter from her estranged brother. In the letter he detailed that they had been the children of a different man than she'd been led to believe her entire life. Their father was in fact an apostate named Ewan Hawthorne.
❀ Deciding she wants to reconnect with her brother who has moved from Starkhaven she changes her last name and puts in a request for transfer to the Circle in Ostwick. It's approved just before she turns 19.
❀ She also uses the move to make connections to try and track down their father once she's in the Free Marches. She writes a few papers on her studies of Necromancy and how largely misunderstood it is, as well as taking on students and teaching them where they're willing, though mostly takes on a big-sister role.
❀ When the Circles fall, she remains at Ostwick as long as there is a safe place for the mages. When it's no longer safe she helps escort a group of children to the Inquisition.
❀ Once everyone was settled and safe she decides to leave again, to track down her brother and see if together they can find her father.
❀ She and Artair search together for a while, but the troubles of the people throughout the land eventually drive her back to the Inquisition, looking to help. She decides if her father is anything like her, maybe he'll show up looking to help too.

Personality

It would be easy for someone with Audra's past to be angry at the world. Rather than being angry, Audra chooses to be glad she's in it. She faces new challenges with a smile and tries to look on the bright side of things. She rolls with the punches, as the saying goes. Every time something knocks her down she reevaluates, adjusts appropriately, and finds another way to get past it.

She has a quirky sense of humor, will laugh at things others might not find funny, and sometimes can make unusual observations. On the whole, her heart is in the right place, and she genuinely likes the people around her. She can be a little motherly towards those who she feels need her protection, at least partially because she never got the real chance to bond with her younger sister.

In battle she's almost eerily calm and she's always excelled at keeping a cool head in times of crisis. She has an expressive face and very much wears her emotions on her sleeve, though she rarely is moved to anger she can get annoyed and frustrated, and isn't shy about correcting the situation. She's not the type to let something bubble up, she's from the school of thought that the best way to treat a boil is to lance it and let it drain.

She is a passionate woman, who believes strongly in the things she does believe in, though she doesn't let her passion control her movements, and tends to be a 'cool heads prevail' type at the end of the day. She can defend her positions and what she believes in to anyone who asks, or in a paper, but she is also open to new ideas and points of view. The few places where she isn't likely to buckle are when children or innocents are in danger, and when people are being well and truly stupid.

Opinions & Affiliations
the Chantry - She does have faith in the Maker, and knows a few of the more important canticles by heart, but she keeps a quiet council with religion, rather than prostrating herself regularly.

the Qun - It's fine for the Qunari but maybe stay in your own corner huh

the Mage/Templar War - She understands why it was necessary, though she doesn't entirely agree with the methods. Both sides, in her opinion, fucked up a lot.

Templars - She has no problem with Templars who do their job, it's the ones who seem to take too much joy in the killing and keeping of mages that worry her.

the Circle - She is grateful to the Circle in many ways, and at the same time hates it for what it represents. She feels that things need to change for mages, but will leave it to those more important than her to decide how they need to change.

Grey Wardens - She has a great respect for the Wardens, they saved her life in Kinloch Hold. She'd even thought about joining them, but her path took her elsewhere.

Elves/Dalish - She likes elves, had many friends in the Circle who were elves, and sees them as the only people who need respect just as badly as mages. She doesn't fully understand all the nuances, but she tries to.

Dwarves - Are cool, she doesn't really have much of an opinion on them otherwise.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Audra excels at Necromancy, Entropy, and Primal magics. She developed control over ice early, and it's the element she's most comfortable working with, though she's also learned the other magics necessary. She has years of formal training, as well as experience in combat due to her life on the road.

Her kind heart is likely one of her strengths, as well as a weakness, because she tries to see the good in anyone until she's proven otherwise, which could lead to some dangerous situations.

She can barely cast healing spells, and that's always been where she's weakest in magic, which is frustrating to her because she is compassionate, but her talents lie more in destruction and the manipulation of the dead.

She is also physically not particularly strong, though time spent on the road and having to fight to survive has toughened her up, she is still a mage, and without her magic she's just a girl with a stick.
